Fantastic Opportunities for young musicians

There is a series of opportunites open to young people through the BBC Proms Sessions for aspiring musicians, run in partnership with the Royal Albert Hall. The BBC Proms Sessions will run throughout the festival with leading artists featured in this year’s season including cellist Guy Johnston, jazz singer-songwriter Jamie Cullum, pianist Gabriela Montero and DJ Mr Switch. Participants at these Sessions will also be offered free tickets to related Proms.

The Art of Improvisation with Gabriela Montero, 23 August 2016
Join pianist Gabriela Montero to explore the wonderful world of improvisation and how to begin developing these skills for yourself.
Participants must be age 16 – 25.

Cello Session with Guy Johnston, 9 August 2016
Cello Session with Guy Johnston
A session of two halves:
-A unique opportunity to play alongside Guy Johnston in a one-off cello ensemble.
-A chance to delve into composer Charlotte Bray's new work 'Falling in the Fire' and find out how a composer works with a concerto performer when writing a new piece.
Participants must be age 14 – 21.

Song-writing with Jamie Cullum, 8 August 2016
Jamie Cullum will share his song-writing skills and expertise from behind the piano. A chance to develop your own skills and learn more about the music Jamie creates as well as his experience in the industry.
Participants must be age 14 – 21.

An Introduction to Scratching with Mr Switch, 26 July 2016
Learn the amazing skills of scratching with world champion DJ Mr Switch and understand how a DJ stands up against the rest as a true solo performer. Whether just starting out on the decks or an experienced DJ, this workshop will open up a new world of scratching mastery to you. 
Participants must be age 14 – 21.

Places for these opportunities will be available to book on the Proms website from 9am on Friday 3 June (bookers will need to scroll down to find the event they wish to attend). If you wish to book on behalf of a group please let us know and we can send you a group booking form. Please note that an adult is not required to attend with individuals or groups as we will have the necessary number of chaperones in place.
